Ripleys Aquarium of the Smokies
According to TripAdvisor, Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies right here in Gatlinburg TN is America’s #1 aquarium! We believe a visit to the aquarium should be at the top of your Smoky Mountains ‘must do’ list for so many reasons. If you think it is just a bunch of fish swimming around in 3′ glass cases, prepare to be amazed! Our Gatlinburg Aquarium is more than just a collection of sharks, eels, and glass walls.
Within this massive aquatic museum, you’ll find eight different areas to capture your interest. Explore how the ecosystems of the world work together in the Tropical Rainforest, Gallery of the Seas, Ocean Realm and Coral Reef areas; witness extremes at the fearfully impressive Shark Lagoon or the silly playfulness of the Penguin Playhouse; and get your hand busy in the interactive areas of Touch a Ray Bay, Stingray Bay, and the Discover Center. You can even learn how all these animals are kept alive and how the aquarium is run when you examine Systems Control.
In addition to the eight realms of this undersea world, each year Ripley’s Aquarium brings new seasonal exhibits to the lower level to entertain and educate! The 2014 exhibit is a program called SLIME, with over 30 fun and interactive features including 15 aquarium tanks and a Jellyfish Encounter. Say, “EWWWWW” but we know you’ll love it!
Ripley’s claims there are more fish in this aquarium than there are people living in the entire town of Gatlinburg. And, they not only let you look at the more than 10,000 sea creatures, they offer programs that allow you to EXPERIENCE them! You and your kids’ ages 5 and older can Sleep with the Sharks, Splash with the Rays, go Behind the Scenes, or have a Penguin Encounter. (Advance reservations are required for these interactive experiences.)
If you need more reasons to dive into the aquarium, Ripley’s offers a “Kids Fin-Tastic Summer” featuring crafts and activities on the Plaza every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from June 21-August 9, 2014. Special guest appearances take place through November 15, and include the Live Mermaids, Mr. Potato Head and artists from Disney and Nickelodeon. Click here for a printable schedule. Please confirm all dates and times by calling (888) 240-1358.
We hope you’re convinced to spend an afternoon at the aquarium and you’ll reserve your vacation cabin with us at Poplar Ridge Log Cabin Rentals. You’ll be close to Ripley’s in a great location for a great rate, and NO reservation fee!!
